We set out to address the following: 1) Position the county as a refreshing alternative to the more touristy, crowded Florida tourism destinations and 2) Create nostalgia and desire for the simple pleasures of a slower paced, old-school family vacation.

Project Storyline:

Driving down interstate 10 in north Florida between Jacksonville and Tallahassee, you might easily drive past the exit for Madison, Florida without feeling the need to stop. But that would be unfortunate, as you would miss the chance to explore one of the few remaining places in the state that still embodies and is reminiscent of Old Florida when everyone piled into the family station wagon for a road trip filled with local diners, historic downtowns, campgrounds and laidback recreational pursuits. Madison County offers the kind of simple pleasures and old-fashioned, stress-free family fun that many long to experience today and that you simply don’t find in other major Florida attractions.

From one of the country’s best swimming holes, friendly campgrounds, kayaking, fishing, boating, hiking, canoeing, hunting, cycling and birding to its lush, rural landscape, natural beauty and moss-draped oaks, Madison County offers a picturesque and naturally charming contrast to Florida’s more bustling, congested urban areas. From the historic downtowns and stately homes of Madison and Greeneville to the humble childhood home of Ray Charles, there is a feeling you’ve truly stepped back in time.
