Destination Branding Specialists

Key Challenge:

We set out to address the following: 1) Discover what makes a small modest river town desirable as a destination and brand and 2) Motivate key stakeholders to think aspirationally about their town as a tourism destination with great potential.

Project Storyline:

As an authentic, small but historically important river town nestled on the confluence of the Kentucky and Ohio Rivers, Carrollton, Kentucky is in a unique position to leverage its location, heritage and recreational opportunities. Carrollton was first discovered 15 years before Daniel Boone ever set foot in Kentucky by an explorer canoeing down the Ohio who marked the spot where the Kentucky River flowed into the mightier waterway at what is known as Point Park. For more than 250 years, Point Park, which lies at mile 545 on the Ohio River, has been a place where people have come together to experience the opportunities and friendliness of a town ripe for exploring, recreation, new ideas and growth.

Today, Carrollton offers fishermen, paddlers, hunters and campers outdoor water-related activities, and a historic district with a quaint downtown that gives history lovers and shoppers plenty to see and do. At mile 545, there’s not just a convergence of two rivers, but the convergence of river culture, nature, history and the scenic outdoors. Because every mile along the Ohio river is unique, offering something different in scenery and character, we recommended Carrollton claim and promote its distinctive spot on the Ohio (the only spot where the two rivers meet) as a memorable, one-of-a-kind gathering place.

Brand Solution: MEET AT THE 545.
