Celebrating Black History Month 2024

As I think about all of the places our team has traveled and the communities with which we have worked, I can’t help but visualize in my mind a movie reel with all the images rolling by to the tune of Johnny Cash’s “I’ve Been Everywhere.” Ok, Johnny, maybe I haven’t traveled every road in […]

As I think about all of the places our team has traveled and the communities with which we have worked, I can’t help but visualize in my mind a movie reel with all the images rolling by to the tune of Johnny Cash’s “I’ve Been Everywhere.” Ok, Johnny, maybe I haven’t traveled every road in this here, land, man but sometimes it sure feels like it. It’s what I love about what we do.

Sure, some places have similar assets like local dining, local historical or cultural attractions, and outdoor experiences but what is always different are the people, the feeling of the place and the authentic story only that community can tell.

As we kick-off #BlackHistoryMonth, we think there are a lot of places of interest worth mentioning to you rich in African American heritage that you may not be aware of or have never before visited.

Here are a few places that come to mind!

Currituck County, NC

Leveraging their newly renovated Jarvisburg Colored School and partnering with neighboring counties to create a trail-like program called the African American Experience of Northeast North Carolina.

Macon, GA

The Tubman Museum is a wonderful museum showcasing African American art, history and culture. Truly one of the signature attractions that helps Macon deliver their branding promise of #wheresoullives.

Greenville, FL (in Madison County)

Located in northwest Florida’s Madison County is the boyhood home of Ray Charles. Not only can you see a statue of the legendary hit maker, you can schedule a tour of his home.
